I just foud out about the dark side of the internet. By accident, actually. I was very shocked how much of my pictures I found, posted at various pages without my permission. As long as I found a clear stated link to my original page I just let it be. But there are also some without any links and even a page where someone wrote wrong personal information or distribiuted them for wallpaper downloads. I don't like it.
I like to make people happy with my art and I'm glad about the interest. But I still want it to be my art. And I want to have at least a link to my original dA page and I want people to ask my permission to use it on their blogs and webpages. I do not ask for the impossible. All I ask for is courtesy.

I have júst come across the same. In my case there was credit, but the image was altered with a big black brush to blot out my watermark along with a quarter of my drawing!
I'll never understand some people.

Altering someones artwork and then posting it online is even worse...what did you do? I wrote to some of them and from some people I got replys and they deleted it. But some didn't reply...

In that particular case I left comments in a very public place (since it was a Facebook page), and they took it down quickly after that. Pretty sure they just did it because they didn't want others to read it...

It's aggravating they don't reply in some cases! Can you contact the owners of the websites they were posted, or are those the folks that don't reply?

Ah, well, thats a good strategy. I did that as well when I didn't found other contacts. But most time the owners didn't reply. I'm thinking about adding the dA watermark to the pictures but I really don't like them because they interfere with the perception of the pictures...

You could always do your own watermark. That way you can at least put it in a spot that's (sort of) pleasing to you! Although thát won't even deter the real fanatics (they just 'Shop it out as I've learned), it will discourage at least the occasional thief, passing yours up for something more easy!
